It would be hella happier if I were able to notice the change, or, keeping weather trends in mind, if I were assured, at least, of being shown some evidence of fall at any point in the near future. Here, tho, only the odd out-of-zone tree will shed its leaves, and while the natives will don parkas and gloves, I sit waiting for a gorgeousness never to come. A Thanksgiving trip north will help, but…
Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
– George Eliot
In autum the evenings, when the glittering sun sinks close to the edge of the hills and the crows fly back to their nests in theres and fours and twos; more charming still is a file of wild geese, like specks in the distant sky. When the sun has set, one’s heart is moved by the sound of the wind and the hum of the insects.
– Sei Shonagon (Trans. Ivan Morris)
It is odd, really, that I seem to have the same autumn/winter malaise that SADD-sufferers have, but for opposite reasons.
